Fall PartyHere’s the skinny.  Aspen‘s Wheeler Opera House and Radio Boardshop are hosting a party and fashion show happening tomorrow night, Monday, November 12th. This fun fall party includes art, drinks, music and apparently a pretty sweet photobooth with fun props.  What else were you going to do on a Monday?

The only deal is that you have to “like” the Wheeler Opera House, which you do anyway, so that’s easy.  After RSVPing on their page the first 200 guests are invited to kick their week off on the right foot.  You must RSVP here and “like” the Wheeler Opera House Facebook page as the party is limited to first 200 guests. Doors at 8, fashion show at 9.  And the RSVP list is at 157 last we checked, so get moving!

Get excited to see what Radio is stocking the shelves with this Winter! They are showcasing Streetwear, Outerwear, Footwear, and Accessories.

Check out some favorite local artist’s and what they’ve been working on.  Also, the Wheeler will have fun minute to win-it games and free Aspen Brewing Company beer until the keg is gone!

Without further delay, we’ll see you there!

Johnny Depp is all over downtown Aspen right now. He’s in hotel lobbies, at City Market and on newsstands. Depp’s picture is gracing the cover of the current issue of Aspen Peak magazine. Award-winning writer Douglas Brinkley writes a terrific expose about Depp and his newest film, The Rum Diary.

Here’s an excerpt from Brinkley’s piece on Depp (CLICK HERE to read the entire article, or pickup a copy of Aspen Peak):

“When Johnny Depp strapped on his strat guitar at the Hiro Ballroom in New York City on October 25, the midnight crowd roared. Cell phone cameras were lifted like candles at a vigil; people wanted proof that they saw the real Captain Jack Sparrow, Mad Hatter, Willy Wonka, and Edward Scissorhands, to show off to friends.

“Just a few hours earlier Depp had attended the premiere of his hijinks film The Rum Diary—in which he plays the young Hunter S. Thompson in late 1950s-early 1960s Puerto Rico—at the Museum of Modern Art. The movie is based on the debut novel of Thompson in his pre-Gonzo days. Depp was set to jam with a group of his favorite all-star musicians, when suddenly Keith Richards hopped on stage. Depp grinned and the two launched into Jazz Gillum’s expansive “Key to the Highway.” Undergirded with a slow-tempo beat, the Richards-Depp deep-muddy blues session began. Bringing the Rolling Stones guitarist on stage was all part of Depp’s ongoing mission to honor the legacy of Gonzo journalism’s high priest…

“’Making The Rum Diary was my fulfillment of a promise I had made to Hunter,’ Depp explains. ‘I had found the novel before it was published at Owl Farm. Hunter had it in his basement archive—The War Room—just lying around. I was floored by the elegant prose. I couldn’t believe he wrote it when he was only 22! And together we decided to make a motion picture out of Rum. From the start it was collaborative. Now I’ve fulfilled the deal.’”

There’s a lot more must-read content in Peak‘s newest issue, too. Mountaineer and Aspen local Neal Beidleman documents his return to Mount Everest after the tragic events of 1996 that were made mainstream news by Jon Krakauer’s book Into Thin Air and Anatoli Boukreev’s book The Climb. Beidleman’s account of his return and summit of the largest peak in the world is enthralling and the photos that he shot while on Mount Everest are incredible! World Champion skier and ski film star Chris Davenport and I tell the Aspen Valley Ski Club story as told to us by a handful of the club members that contributed to making AVSC the 2011 Club of the Year according to the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). And, the gorgeous style spreads that are Aspen Peak‘s modus operandi illustrate the haute on-snow and around-town styles of the season.

So, pick up the magazine and check it out!
